What is Hip fracture surgery?

  • A fall might lead to an injury to the hip joint causing a fracture following which the patient is unable to stand up and walk and is bed-ridden. This is a common injury sustained by the elderly. Hip fracture is relatively urgent, and includes fracture at the neck of the hip bone or slightly lower (intertrochanteric fractures). Such fractures are treated surgically with either fixation of the fracture using nails, screws, plates and screws etc or replacement of the hip bone which can be partial (Hemi replacement) or total hip replacement. The goal of the surgery is to make the patient mobile and pain-free as soon as possible which is absolutely essential for patients with Hip fractures.
