Clubfoot describes a range of foot abnormalities usually present at birth (congenital) in which the child’s foot is twisted out of shape or position. Clubfoot is a common birth defect, and it may be an isolated problem or a part of a syndrome involving multiple body systems. In clubfoot, the tissues connecting the muscles to the bone (tendons) are shorter than usual. Treatment involves either manipulation, serial casting, splintage or surgery depending on the severity of the condition and the age of the child. Club foot treatment is quite rewarding and may help the child lead a normal active life.
