What is a Wrist fracture

  • Wrist fracture happens when one or more bones of the wrist break. It is one of the most common injuries sustained in elderly with weak or osteoporotic bones in a fall on an outstretched hand. Wrist fractures require immediate attention and treatment, otherwise, the patient might be at risk of severe deformation in the wrist bones which also might result in chronic pain, disability and loss of function. Wrist fracture surgery is a procedure in which the surgeon restores the alignment of broken bones and fixes them using plates and screws so that bone healing takes place in an appropriate way and any deformity and disability is prevented.
