What is pediatric knee deformity?

  • Abnormal or exaggerated knee bending in any direction is a knee deformity that might lead to a limp, difficulty in walking, limitations in activity, pain and early arthritis. This deformity may be unilateral or bilateral. These deformities may be since birth (congenital) or may develop while growing (developmental) as a result of nutritional deficiency or any other bone disease. Knock knees (bent outwards) and bow legs (bent inwards) are the most common types of pediatric knee deformities. Treatment involves correction of the underlying cause and might require surgical correction of the deformity by an Osteotomy surgery.
