What is Paediatric Hip Deformity?

  • Sometimes a child may be born with (congenital) or may develop while growing (developmental) a deformity or dislocation in the hip joint which may result in a limp, difficulty in walking, limitations in activity, pain and early arthritis. This deformity may be unilateral or bilateral. it may be an isolated problem or as a part of a syndrome involving multiple body systems. Treatment involves either manipulation, casting, splinting or surgery depending on the severity of the condition and the age of the child.
