What is High Tibial Osteotomy Surgery?

  • Sometimes only one side of the knee, the inner (medial) or outer (lateral) side sustains more damage than the other during arthritis, leading to pain, deformity and difficulty in walking. Also the deformity might be a result of trauma or growth disturbance during childhood. High Tibial osteotomy is a procedure in which a cut is made in the leg bone (tibia) to correct the deformity which is then fixed using plate and screws. High Tibial Osteotomy surgery is a joint sparing procedure that corrects the deformity at the knee joint leading to improved gait and function and relieves pain without putting any limitations on the patient after recovery.
